Daniel Calleja Crespo

Director-General for Environment, European Commission

Daniel Calleja Crespo has been Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate General (DG) for Environment since 2015. He has held many posts within the European Commission, serving as Director General of the DG for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs from January to August 2015; Director General of DG for Enterprise and Industry and Special Envoy for SMEs from 2012 to 2015; Deputy Director General of DG Enterprise and Industry, from 2011 to 2012. He is the Special Envoy for SMEs. Between 1999 and 2004, he was Head of Cabinet of the Vice-president of the European Commission, Loyola de Palacio, responsible for Transport, Energy, and relations with the European Parliament. Between 1995 and 1999, he was the Head of Cabinet for Commissioner Oreja, responsible for institutional affairs, and for the Amsterdam Treaty negotiations. He has a degree in Law and in Business Administration from the University of Comillas, Madrid.
