SPOTLIGHT DISCUSSION – Redrawing the agri-food trade map

Justin Brown has been Australian ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg and NATO since April 2018. Prior to this appointment, he led the trade and investment group in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra, with responsibility for Australia’s trade negotiations and policy agenda.  During this period, he was Australia’s chief negotiator in the CPTPP (TPP-11) negotiations.  During his career, he has been involved in a range of trade negotiations at the multilateral, regional and bilateral levels and led the department’s trade law unit.  He has served as Australia’s lead climate change negotiator and headed the department’s consular and crisis management division.  Overseas, he has been Australia’s High Commissioner to Canada and, had postings in Los Angeles, Brussels and Copenhagen.

He holds a bachelor degree in economics. In 2015, he was awarded the Public Service Medal.
