Opening High-Level Panel Discussion – Unpacking the Green Deal in agriculture, from rhetoric to reality

Martin.C.Th. Scholten is strategic advisor to the Executive Board of Wageningen University & Research responsible for animal sciences, livestock research, bioveterinary research and marine research. As an ecologist by background and now active in the field of agro-sciences, he introduced the principles of Feeding the World within the Carrying Capacity of Planet Earth, Livestock Farming with Care, A circular food production in a biobased society, and Disruptive Technologies in responsible innovation in Agribusiness. He is also an advisor to the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality contributing to the vision of Minister of Agriculture, nature and food. Scholten is part of the leadership of the GRA (Global Research Alliance on agricultural greenhouse gasses), leading the Flagship Climate Smart Agriculture by Circularity. Previously he was a president of the European public-private livestock innovation platform Animal Task Force (ATF). He was president of European association of Fisheries & Aquaculture Research Organisations (EFARO) from 2004 to 2010. He is a founding father of the innovation centre Dairy Campus, the Sino-Dutch Dairy Development Centre (SDDDC) in Beijing; and Netherlands Centre of One Health (NCOH).
