Opening Interview – Green, Competitive and Innovative: Making the transition work

Bellanova has been a minister of agriculture in the current Italian government since September 2019. Previously she held a position of deputy minister for economic development, from 2015 to 2019. Prior to that she was appointed undersecretary for labor. Bellanova was elected to Parliament, where she strengthened her commitment to work, economic development, industrial policies, employment protection and female labor issues from 2006 to 2014. Bellanova has devoted herself to the defense of workers’ rights, with particular attention to the agricultural sector and female labor, since the age of 15. The dramatic working conditions she experienced, lead her to start combating illegal hiring practices in South Italian farms. She was only 14-year-old when she was employed as an agricultural worker.
