In May 2019, OECD member countries and a range of partner economies adopted the first intergovernmental standard on AI – the OECD Recommendation on Artificial Intelligence (OECD AI Principles). This provided the basis for the G20 AI Principles endorsed by Leaders in June 2019. Building on OECD work and collaboration with a multi-stakeholder group of experts, the OECD AI Principles promote AI that is innovative and trustworthy and that respects human rights and democratic values.
The Future Society – Originally founded at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, The Future Society is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit think-and-do tank, advancing the global governance of Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies.
The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, with sites in Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken and Bremen, a project office in Berlin, a Laboratory in Niedersachsen and a branch office in St. Wendel, is the leading German research institute in the field of innovative software technology. In the international scientific community, DFKI ranks among the most recognized “Centers of Excellence” and currently is the biggest research center worldwide in the area of Artificial Intelligence and its application in terms of number of employees and the volume of external funds. The financial budget in 2018 was 48.8 million Euro. DFKI projects cover the whole spectrum from application-oriented basic research to market- and client-oriented design of product functions.
About 1,100 employees from 60 countries are currently conducting research focusing on Smart Data & Knowledge Services, Cyber-Physical Systems, Multilingual Technologies, Plan-Based Robot Control, Educational Technology Lab, Interactive Textiles, Robotics, Innovative Retail, Information Systems, Embedded Intelligence, Smart Service Engineering, Intelligent Analytics for Massive Data, Intelligent Networks, Agents and Simulated Reality, Augmented Vision, Language Technology, Cognitive Assistants, Innovative Factory Systems, Marine Perception and Smart Enterprise Engineering. Impact: more than 130 professorships of former DFKI employees, and more than 90 spin-off companies with approximately 2,500 highly qualified jobs.
Founded in 2012, France Digitale is the largest start-up association in Europe. France Digitale brings together the champions of digital entrepreneurship: it gathers 1500 digital startups with strong growth plans and more than 100 investors (venture capitalists and business angels).
FD has been leading AI debates in France and in Europe via the publication of comprehensive studies and the organization of major events. France Digitale launched the “French startup players in Artificial Intelligence mapping” and shed light on the European Artificial Intelligence ecosystem with Roland Berger in the study “Joining the Dots: a map of Europe’s AI ecosystem” (2018 & 2019). In April 2019, France Digitale launched the European Commission’s AI4EU project at the “European AI Night’, a unique meeting of C-Levels and AI-Makers from all over Europe. In October 2019, France Digitale organizes the fourth edition of the France is AI Conference in Station F, the world biggest startup campus, in Paris. Every year the event brings together French and EU policy-makers, researchers, entrepreneurs, VCs and executives to celebrate the AI ecosystem. As France’s largest AI event, it gathers more than 100 speakers, 2500 attendees and 100 journalists.
France Digitale proposals for the European Commission were released under the pan-European manifesto “United Tech of Europe” bringing together 30 organisations from 27 Member States.
