Pilar del Castillo Vera is a Spanish Member of Parliament for the People’s Party, part of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group. Del Castillo Vera was elected to the European Parliament (EP) in 2004. She is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), for which she served as Coordinator of the EPP Group during the last term. She is currently the EP’s rapporteur on the European Electronic Communications Code. She has been a rapporteur on several legislative files including the Telecoms Single Market Regulation, the Regulation on the Body of European Regulators in Electronic Communications (BEREC), and the reports, “Cloud Computing Strategy for Europe” and “A Digital Agenda for Europe: 2015.eu.” Del Castillo Vera is chair of the European Internet Forum, a member of both the European Energy Forum and the Transatlantic Policy Network. Before her appointment to the EP, she served as Spanish minister of education, culture, and sport from 2000 to 2004. She received a PhD in Law from Universidad Complutense and an MA in Political Science from Ohio State University.
