Pieter Liese is member and European People’s Party (EPP) coordinator in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, he is also substitute member in the Committee on Budgets, member in the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America and member in the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. He has been member of the European Parliament for the region Südwestfalen (South Westphalia) since 1994.He is also a member of the federal executive Board of the CDU.

Previously he was physician in a group practice from 1994 to 2002. He held a position of ward physician in the children’s hospital in Paderborn, Germany until 1994. Liese was member of the Council of the Municipal Bestwig from 1989 to 1994, he was also district chairman of the Junge Union from 1991 to 1997.
He has been member of the Central Committee of German Catholics since 1997. He holds a medical degree from Marburg, Aachen and Bonn. He hold a PhD from the Human Genetics Institute of the University Bonn.
