Bruno Le Maire is the Minister for the Economy and Finances of France, a position he has held since May 2017. Previously, he was candidate for the presidency of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party from November 2014 to 2016, and took part in the centre-right primary for the French presidential election. From 2009 to 2012, Le Maire served as Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, and was Minister of State for European Affairs from December 2008 to June 2009 in François Fillon’s government. Before that, he was Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin from 2006 to 2007, First Advisor to the Prime Minister from 2005 to 2006, and Strategic Affairs Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2004 to 2005. Le Maire has been an MP for the Eure département since 2007 following successful elections in 2007, 2012 and 2017 respectively. He is a graduate of the École normale supérieure and holds a degree (agrégation) in French language and literature. Le Maire is also a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and the École nationale d’administration (ENA).
