Jyrki Katainen is the Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness, a position he has held since November 1, 2014. He joined the Commission in July 2014 as Vice-President for Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Euro. Prior to that, he served as Prime Minister of Finland from 2011 to 2014 and Minister of Finance from 2007 to 2011. He was a Member of the Finnish Parliament for the National Coalition Party (Kokoomus) from 1999 to 2014. He also served as Member of the Finnish Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly from 2003 to 2007, Member of the Administrative Council of the Finnish Broadcasting Company from 2003 to 2005, and Member of the Finnish Delegation to the Western European Union Parliamentary Assembly from 2004 to 2005. Additionally, he served as Deputy Member of the Finnish Delegation to the Nordic Council from 2001 to 2003. Katainen holds an MSc in Political Science from the University of Tampere, Finland and did an Erasmus exchange at the University of Leicester, U.K.
