Diane Schmitt is Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Avramopoulos in charge of migration, home affairs and citizenship. She is contributing to the strategic development of the European policy on migration, border management and security during a period characterized by increased migration flows and security threats. Prior to this position, she was in charge of migration at the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs at the European Commission.
Schmitt spent most of her career in the European Commission where she started in the Secretary-General in 1992 working in a variety of policy areas. She was member of the Cabinet of the President of the Commission and Deputy Head of Cabinet of the Vice-President in charge of justice and home affairs. She contributed to the internal reform of the European Commission in the Directorate-General for Human Resources and Security.
