Laura Boldrini is a Member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Italy, where she serves as a Deputy for the Free and Equal party. Previously, she served as President of the Chamber of Deputies from 2013 to 2018. As a parliamentarian, Boldrini has focused her mandate on several fronts, including social and gender issues, inequalities and peripheries, budgetary savings and transparency, violence on the Internet and combating fake news. She has also introduced gender-sensitive language in all the documents and proceedings of the Chamber of Deputies, setting up a cross-party Women Deputies Group for gender equality. Boldrini was spokesperson of the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) from 1998 to 2012 and the Italian spokesperson at the World Food Programme (WFP) from 1993 to 1998. She holds a degree in Law from La Sapienza University in Rome.
