Rym Momtaz is POLITICO correspondent in France. Before joining POLITICO, she spent the last seven years working as a Producer at ABC News. She covered major news stories across Europe, the Middle East and the U.S. including Macron’s rise to power, the 2015 attacks in Paris, Brussels and Bamako, and the battles for Raqqa and Mosul. She started at the Investigative Unit where she won an Emmy for an undercover investigation on Herbalife. Her experience reporting on the Syrian conflict inspired her award-winning graphic reportage “Madaya Mom”, a joint production with Marvel Comics. More recently, she has increasingly focused on the interplay between the causes of Islamist radicalization, the rise of populism and the migration in Europe. She also covered a Royal Wedding and a Royal Birth.
She took a hiatus from journalism in 2010-2011 to serve at Lebanon’s mission to the UN during the country’s mandate on the Security Council. In that role she was part of the team that negotiated the resolutions authorizing military intervention in Libya.
She is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
